How to Properly Wear a Hospital Mask
If you are healthy, the World Health Organization (WHO) says, you need to wear a face mask only if you are taking care of someone who has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, which causes the respiratory disease COVID-19. Those who are sick should also wear a mask because it will help contain any germs that are released when they cough or sneeze.
A video published by the WHO explains how to properly put on, wear and take off a protective face mask. The first step before putting it on is to wash your hands with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer for at least 20 seconds. The next step is to inspect the mask for any holes or tears.
Following this, you should determine which side of the mask is the top and which is the bottom. This can be determined by locating the metal strip, which will identify the top. Then you should see which side is the inside of the mask, "which is usually the white side," according to the WHO video.
The mask should then be fit to the user's face, placing the two elastic strings behind each ear and pinching the metal strip on the mask's top to the shape of your nose. The mask should be pulled over your mouth and chin, "making sure there are no gaps between your face and the mask."
It is very important to avoid touching the mask's front, which will contaminate your hands. If this happens, you should immediately wash your hands with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
When it is time to remove the mask, pull the elastic strings from behind the ears and avoid touching the front of the mask. The mask should be held far away from the face and discarded immediately. Masks should then be placed in a closed bin. Wash your hands shortly afterward.
According to the WHO video, a single-use mask should be discarded as soon as it gets damp, and it is very important not to reuse them.
I'm constantly seeing people wearing masks below their nose. It's quite frustrating to those that are properly wearing their mask.
I always see people wearing masks below their nose constantly, I know sometime I do pull mine down below my nose sometimes for a few seconds so I can breathe better but I normally pull it back up.
I have seen the same thing when I go out. Once the masks go on you should not touch it to adjust. If you do use anti-bac gel before and after. There are different kinds of masks some more comfortable than others
I feel like common sense insinuates that the purpose of the mask or face covering/shield is to cover or shield the face...right? I do see an abundance of people wearing masks below the nose, avoiding facial hair, etc. But personal comfort is the deciding factor for so many Americans, less so the protection of self and others.
@lindseycoganiectskin-com youre so right! It's frustrating to see that and the gloves in the car for me. I just feel like people are really not considering the functionality of these measures.
Wearing a mask the proper way is not difficult, but some people manage to still wear them incorrectly. If the mask is underneath your nose or if it's just sitting around your chin, it defeats the whole purpose of the mask. We can't keep each other safe if we don't wear our mask correctly.
@lindseycoganiectskin-com I totally agree with you. Every time I see someone with their mask below their nose I just want to tell them to pull the thing up, it's not that hard.
I still see many people wearing masks. I think extra protection can't hurt in many situations. I tried the cloth but they were hard to breath through and talk all day. I was trained to wear a mask for all the clients I saw at the 2 spas I worked at. Very few times was I asked why. If you are doing extractions the mask protects you from the oil and debris that sometimes flies up for a comedone.
Nothing kills me more than when I see people whose mask is not fully covering their nose. As a person who is constantly looking out for others, I would not want to be that person wearing my mask improperly. The people who choose to throw a fit about wearing a mask drive me crazy as well. Just wear the mask properly and wear it at that just like everyone else!! I had a friend who was traveling outside of the state and their family chose to drive 14 hours just so they wouldnt have to wear a mask on the two hour plane ride, I found it to be slightly ridiculous.
Wearing a mask is very important as an esthetician as well, it helps keep bacteria and potential sickness/germs away from the client. Wearing a mask is important in all areas during this time of COVID-19. In business, when working, it is essentially important to keep this on for the sake of others.
and it's important to keep yourself safe ?
@francescablackiectskin-com yes i do agree it is the personal comfort factor as well
Wearing a mask incorrectly defeats the purpose of the mask itself. It is important when wearing a mask to put it over your nose and mouth to protect yourself from any bacteria and viruses.
@gabriellemrasiectskin-com same here, when wearing a mask I feel like sometimes I just need a breath of fresh air so I will pull it down for a minute but then I will put it back on correctly.
@keyonnastarksiectskin-com it is important to wear a mask correctly because you never know what other people could be spreading or what conditions others have. It is especially important to wear it correctly in medical settings.
