Many things can affect the pH of your vagina, including sperm. "There have been a limited number of advances in birth control over the last two decades; Phexxi represents an important step forward in women's health," said https://med.uc.edu/obgy n" aria-label="Michael A. Thomas, M.D.,">Michael A. Thomas, M.D., Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in a statement, "many of my patients have cycled through numerous contraceptive options and still haven’t found the right fit for their sexual and reproductive needs. Phexxi offers women freedom from hormones and control over how they choose to prevent pregnancy. I look forward to offering this new on-demand option to my patients."
Phexxi was tested on 1,400 women who were aged between 18 to 35. It was 86 percent effective on average over seven menstrual cycles. A small minority of women suffered from cystitis, pyelonephritis, and UTI’s afterward and Evofem has suggested that Phexxi isn’t suitable for people with a history of recurrent urinary tract infections or urinary tract abnormalities.
It’s been reported that Phexxi will cost $250 to $275 for a box of 12 without insurance and the company is working to have it covered under the Affordable Care Act. Evofem Biosciences' Chief Executive Officer, Saundra Pelletier said in a statement, “the FDA approval of Phexxi means women now have access to a non-hormonal contraceptive option that they control, on their terms, to be used only when they need it. We’re proud and excited to deliver new innovation to women in a category ready for change."
It’s expected that Phexxi will be launched in early September. Taking into consideration the current Covid-19 pandemic, Phexxi Concierge Experience will be available alongside it. Evofem describes this as “a patient and healthcare provider telemedicine support system.” The company has said that through the platform people would be able to secure a prescription, determine their insurance coverage, receive counseling support and refill reminders.
While Phexxi works to protect you against pregnancy it doesn’t shield you from STIs. It’s important to speak to your clinician before you change birth control.
This is an interesting new take on birthcontrol. I think it is important to have a wide variety of contraceptives to fit all sorts of lifestyles. Definitely not a one size fits all thing.
This is definitely a very interesting form of birth control, I think its great the wide variety that we have for women when it comes to birth control not every woman is the same and no every woman wants to take the pill. Its awesome we have doctors and scientists working and creating new contraceptives!
I agree that there has to be a variety of options for birth control. I hope the nonhormonal one works and that there is the support that goes with it. I hope there are many more studies on this one too. The pill was available when I started birth control. My periods were so heavy and I always missed school for the first 2 days. When I finally got the right dosage it was great. I did not have much pain and my periods only lasted 3-4 days, not the usual 7-8. Advancements have certainly improved since I took them
@deborahwatersiectskin-com Yes! There are many benefits to birth control other than as a contraceptive. Clearing acne, shorter, lighter and less painful periods are all benefits.
I think this sounds wonderful. I would be interested to know a little more about the development of it, but a hormone-free contraceptive would open doors for thousands of women that are negatively effected by hormonal manipulation.
@lindseycoganiectskin-com absolutely! contraceptives should be available in a myraid of options to help everyone find something theyre comfortable with.
Its amazing that they have come out with so many different contraceptives. Every womans body and lifestyle is different from the next. For example, remembering to take the pill everyday can be a hassle, especially when you forget. Contraceptives arent a one size fits all type of thing, sometimes you have try a bunch of different kinds to find what works for your body. They additionally offer other benefits such as menstrual relief, lighter periods, and acne help.
This a great new type of contraceptives are avaliabe for women. I feel as though this will be more covient for women and fit their lifestyle. I hope that it can be under the affordable help act so all women can have acess to it.
@francescablackiectskin-com I would also like to read up more on it and learn how its created.
@gabriellemrasiectskin-com Im glad that its a variety of contraceptives because what can work for one woman can be terrible for the next.
This birth control is a great concept. It may not work for everyone, but it could be great for someone who is looking for a non- hormonal birth control. Also, it is nice that this is not something that would have to be done everyday
@camiryndavisiectskin-com I agree, there are so many birth controls out there and it is so important to be able to find one that fits your own body/lifestyle. plus, i agree this seems like a convenient option
@deborahwatersiectskin-com I recently had to switch to a non- hormonal birth control because all of the synthetic hormones used to give me terrible migraines. I am glad they are coming out with more forms of non hormonal birth controls.
