This can cause hyperpigmentation in areas such as that underarms, under the chin, in the groin area, and on the neck. Hirsutism can also occur which is an excessive amount of hair growth in abnormal places. Irregular periods can occur if PCOS is present which makes it hard for women to conceive since ovulation does not occur as frequently. Another symptom is weight gain.

PCOS is polycystic ovarian syndrome which is ultimately a hormonal imbalance that makes women have irregular periods and cysts on the ovaries. Although the cause is unknown, we do know that women with PCOS have an excess amount of androgen (male hormone).

I agree with what you said, PCOS really affects the body in a lot of different ways, not just one or two symptoms. The hyperpigmentation and hair growth can be frustrating, especially since they’re visible signs, and the irregular periods make it even more complicated when it comes to fertility. I also think it’s important that you mentioned the hormonal imbalance part, because that’s really what ties everything together. The excess androgen levels explain a lot of those symptoms. Overall, it shows how complex PCOS is and why it can be difficult to manage.
