I had a friend tell me when I was practicing on her "you don't need to wear gloves"  Well, I did anyway.  You never never know!

I grew up in the country, have four kids and love doing yard work. Wearing gloves never occurred to me until I started this class. And I'm a tomboy, so I'm pretty sure I have dirt under my nails until I shower at night. But...seeing all the finger diseases has made me think twice and now I wear gloves for everything.

@melissalandersiectskin-com I even felt funny not wearing gloves with my kids only because when I perform a service it's just a habit to wear gloves. Makes me feel professional as well.

@leejenkinsiectskin-com I am so very scared of herpes on the hands or fingers because herpes are highly contagious and could spread to any part of your body. Then you could spread it to others. Not good. Wear gloves and change as needed.

I don't understand how people wouldn't wear gloves when doing anything with anyone elses skin. I see esthetician videos all the time on social media and it makes me not want to go to them. There are so many things that we can catch and spread from clients.

I guess I've become a bit of a germaphobe because the thought of not wearing a glove during any sort of treatment just makes my skin crawl. During the pandemic it really opened my eyes to how gross the general public was. Countless times I saw again and again grown people just doing the most disgusting unsanitary things in public like sticking their hands in their mouth or sneezing without covering it up. I constantly think about stuff like that and I always have hand sanitizer on me and Im a frequent hand washer. I know gloves aren't the most convenient feeling but I will never do a service without them.

@rebeccamatuskaiectskin-com agreed 100%. I cant tell you how many times Ive been in a public restroom and I've seen grown women not wash their hands after they use the bathroom. That person could be working on your face 🙁

@torimcneilliectskin-com I also grew up vary similar but once I was stationed on my first ship I saw first hand how gross everyone was and how they were constantly touching everything and nothing was ever cleaned properly. It turned me into a bit of a germ freak.

This makes me want to wear gloves no matter where I go because we have to touch so many different surfaces daily no knowing who has touched it previously. Alot of people do not practice proper hygiene and hand sanitizing.

Wow, this article was not only really informative but also eye-opening. It reminded me how important it is to always wear gloves and properly protect yourself, especially in this field where you are constantly exposed to different bacteria and infections. Something like Herpetic Whitlow is a perfect example, it may not seem common at first but it can easily be transmitted through direct contact if proper precautions aren't taken. It really made me realize that safety isn't just about the clients but also about protecting yourself as a professional. Taking those extra steps like wearing gloves and following proper sanitation protocols can make a huge difference in preventing serious issues and maintaining a safe working environment.

I have never heard of this! It is so crazy how not wearing gloves could make you susceptible to to herpetic whitlow. I have read some of the replies that were left years ago about whether or not nail techs or massage therapists wear gloves and I have yet to go to a place where they do. How do they not contract more infections.

@torimcneilliectskin-com Before I got into the esthetics industry, I never was super aware of an infections that are so easily contractible. I have become such a clean freak since starting school and I am constantly washing my hands now.

@rebeccamatuskaiectskin-com Me neither! I went to an esthetician before I started school and I don't think she had gloves on the entire time she was touching my face and now that I have started in the industry I am so hyper aware of it.

This was a very eye opening article because I never heard of this before.  I only know that people could get herpes on their lips or mouth area, I have never seen any form of the virus to this degree or anything that I guess comes from that family but forms into something so huge.  I couldn't imagine how painful and uncomfortable that could be to deal with for over a month.  I also did not know that a person who has HSV 2 is easier to get HIV.

@latriciathompsoniectskin-com For sure.  Because you really never know what is on the surface that you touch and then you touch your face, eye, mouth, a child, or anything. I was very cautious after COVID but this added an extra layer for sure.

@torimcneilliectskin-com And the truth is kids are so random and they are into anything you really never know what they touch or are getting into so you have to be very careful when dealing with them because you just never know.
