FDA approves first drug to treat peanut allergies in children
(CNN)The US Food and Drug Administration approved the first drug to treat peanut allergies in children on Friday, following an advisory committee vote of approval in September.
How it works
This sounds promising for people who have allergic reactions to peanuts. Making sure that people trying this have a backup as the EpiPen.
There are trace amounts of these allergens in all kinds of foods that are not advertised with people suffering a reaction, especially children that this might prove to be a breakthrough to helping.
This is good to hear because it could save children's lives when they're out somewhere and someone doesn't know about their allergy. Also a lot of foods are made in places that come in contact with nuts.
This is great news to hear, since their are so many children that have peanut allergies. It's scary as a parent to send your child to school with this type of allergy. Schools are more aware of this and make accommodations to be peanut free, but, it's great for parents now to have a choice under a controlled way to increase their tolerance.
I work in a restaurant as a server so I have a lot of people that come in with peanut allergies. I am glad to hear this as a lot of people have this allergy. It can be hard for a lot of people.
I am glad that they came out with this, it can potentially help save a childs life. Having this type of medicine will help tremendously in schools and when out to eat. it can be very frustrating for people with these allergies.
@deborah I agree, it is important to keep an epipen on hand as back up just incase the flare up gets worse.
@angierodrigueziectskin-com When I was in elementary school they had separate peanut free tables for those with allergies. I agree, giving parents access to this medicine for their children would be great to help with controlling allergic reactions.
This is a great thing for those that have peanut allergies. It would be so easy to get exposed to peanuts, they are everywhere. Even the residue could effect one that is highly allergic. Promising news for those allergic.
@emmamidgettiectskin-com I think it would be very difficult to keep a place peanut allergy safe. It is good that places can offer people nut free options.
@madisonmauldiniectskin-com Yes, EpiPen is a must for those with the allergy. It would be so scary Im afraid I would always be fearful of being exposed.
Thats incredible! This and always having the epipen sound like a great solution. Peanuts and peanut oil are in a lot of things and a child can touch anything and there could be peanut residue on it.
@melissalandersiectskin-com isn't this so cool! Peanut residue can be anywhere and a massive allergic reaction can occur at any time.
This would really help people especially those with severe allergies to peanuts. In the mean time, I try to ensure I know who has nut allergies around me since even nuts in the air can affect someone around me.
@melissalandersiectskin-com Agreed, definitely promising news for those with the allergy.
@mikaylaalleniectskin-com Yes, so many places use nut based ingredients. It would definitely protect youth.
@emmamidgettiectskin-com I think it is very respectful of the restaurant you work in to keep peanut free options for the ones in need of that.
@melissalandersiectskin-com I also agree this is wonderful new for people with peanut allergies.
Peanut allergies along with all allergies are a very surreal thing and I don't think most people take it as serious as it should be taken. I believe this is a very good thing that the FDA has created, it will be there in case of emergencies to keep everyone safe.
A lot of children have peanut allergies, I would be so scared of sending my child to school or to friends houses knowing they have a serious allergy so it's great to hear they came out with this.
@alizasaundersiectskin-com I agree I don't think a lot of people think about the severity of certain allergies so it's good to hear the FDA is doing this
@aliciawellonsiectskin-com It's great you're being proactive about identifying those with allergies I should probably be doing that more
I was born with many allergies and I have always considered myself fortunate to have never had a peanut allergy. I am glad this treatment is rolling out and can offer relief to many people who suffer from it. Peanut allergies are serious and some people are extremely allergic and cant even touch a surface that a peanut has been on. I really hope this works.
@megancumberiectskin-com this terrifies me as well! it never really seems that people have slight peanut allergies I always hear about the extreme cases. very scary for sure.
@alizasaundersiectskin-com I'm glad they can have this treatment as an option along with epi pens.
