What? People with straight hair have round hair fibers. Straight hair reflects the most sheen. Strait hair tends to be shinier that curly or wavy hair because the sebum produced in the hair follicle has an easier time finding its way to the ends of the hair but not just because of the shape. The cuticle that protects the hair shaft is not the same for all hair types. Type 1 hair (strait) has a cuticle and it can lay flatter than the cuticle of curly or wavy hair. The cuticle lies on the outside of the hair like shingles on a roof.

Why? History The shape of the hair follicle and the way keratin is distributed in the hair shaft is important for straight hair. Hair is mainly made of keratin, a protein which grows from the follicle. Straight hair is usually shinier that curly or wavy hair because the sebum produced in the hair follicle has an easier time finding its way to the ends of the hair. The cuticle that protects the hair shaft is not the same afro all hair types.

How does it relate to the skin? The hair grows under the stratum corneum. There are 3 types of straight hair: 1A, 1B, 1C. Hair travels through the different layers of the skin. Hair is dead by the time it is pushed through the stratum corneum. The shape of the hair shaft is determined by the shape of the hair follicle, and the cross section shape determines the amount of shine the hair has. Hair follicles and the skin function within the integumentary system. A hair removal method that is not performed in a way that does not cause too much trauma or allows pathogens into the skin is much better for the skin.

Where does it typically occur? Can grow on the body, face and head. Hair can grow all over the body. The sebaceous glands cause the hair to be shiner. This is why straight hair is so shiny and smoother.

When? Implications From birth straight hair is also determined by its protein structure and the disulfide bond that occur between hair proteins. Some people develop hair in the womb called lanugo. This is found on fetus or newborns. Genetics has a major role in helping determine the hair shape.

Who benefits from this? People with straight hair usually have a lot of shine. The hair can be fine, coarse, and / or thick. Straight hair does not hold a curl and can change to be wavy in later life. Some cases hormones and certain medications can change the texture of the hair, making it grow in different directions. People with straight hair normally benefits from it but companies can benefit with different products. People that have straight hair have a lot of shine and gives a smooth appearance.

What causes this? The way the proteins gather in the hair shaft. The fibers of the hair are round making it drop evenly on both sides. Genes inherited from your parents. Each hair grows for 3-5 years before continuing on to the resting phase for a couple of months and then falls out. The pilosebaceous follicle unit grows out of the dermal layer of the skin. It is nourished by small blood vessels and nerve endings

How? Solutions (Mechanical /Machine) IPL and lasers are temporary hair removal treatments. Electrology is permanent. If you have straight hair and want curly or wavy hair, you can receive different hair treatments like perms.

How? Solutions (Non Mechanical) Waxing, threading, and tweezing are ways to remove hair. Sugaring and good conditioners need to be used. Relaxers or keratin straightening treatments are another example. Nair can remove unwanted hair. If wanting to remove your hair, waxing or sugaring are two good options.
