A cell that cannot advance or go backward and is destroyed. It is considered a cause of aging. Gradual deterioration of function.
Benefit: Cells continually experience stress and damage from exogenous and endogenous sources, and they respond from complete recovery to cell death.
Fact: Proliferating cells can make an additional response by adopting a state of permanent cell-cycle arrest.
