Metabolism consists of two parts: anabolism and catabolism. In metabolism substances are broken down to have energy for important processes.
Benefit: The three main purposes of metabolism is the conversion of food to energy, the conversion of food for proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids, and elimination of waste.
Fact: The word metabolism can also refer to the sum of all chemical reactions that occur in living organisms
