What? Effleurage is the movement estheticians usually begin with during the facial massage. It can be used on people for helping to ease headaches, nervousness, or even those who have a hard time sleeping. Effleurage has effects on the nervous system by stimulation of nerve receptors in the parasympathetic system. It can relax muscles and decrease heart rate.

Why? History Effleurage is a soft, flowing movement done with the hands. The tissues of the body warm up as they are stroked. Effleurage strokes are usually done at the beginning and the end of the facial. Light effleurage is a good way to introduce the estheticians hand to the client. This movement is very versatile and easy to perform.

Where does it typically occur? Soothes the nerves, stimulates the central nervous system. Flow of lymph is increased helping body to get rid of waste and improves circulation and blood flow. It can be used on all areas of the body. Use the effleurage movement to reduce muscle tension and relax the muscle fibers.

How? Solutions(Machines / Mechanical) Effects can be relaxing or stimulating for the client. This is a gliding movement and can also be used with deeper pressure to help with circulation. Mechanical solutions are it helps to exfoliate the skin, helps with blood flow, warms tissues, and helps remove waste.

How? Solutions(Non Mechanical)Effleurage is a soft, flowing movement done with the hands. The tissues of the body warm up as they are stroked. This movement can be done all over the body to assist with relaxation all the way to helping with circulation.
